Block Level Bankers' Committee Meeting and Financial Literacy Program

Selsella, West Garo Hills: A Block Level Bankers' Committee Meeting cum Financial Literacy Program was successfully held today at the Block Multi-Facility Hall, Selsella. The program primarily focused on promoting bank linkages and disseminating information about Social Security Schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), and the Atal Pension Yojana (APY).


Other crucial topics such as accessing Cash Credit and Term Loans, as well as facilitating the opening of Savings Bank Accounts and Credit Linkages, were also discussed. It was highlighted that around 10 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) are yet to open their Savings Bank Accounts, with efforts underway to resolve the pending cases with banks.



Key speakers at the program included Shri Kitmiller Sangma, (DDM, NABARD, WGH); Shri Hidam Singh (LDM, SBI); Smt. Nikrachi Sangma (JRDO, Selsella Block); branch managers of MCAB and MRB Phulbari; Shri Tengba Sangma, District Financial Inclusion Manager, MSRLS; and Shri B. Mawthow, Project Manager (Financial Inclusion), MSRLS State Office, Shillong.

The event saw active participation from approximately 30 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and 15 Village Organization (VO) leaders. Additionally, BAKDIL NGO staff played a pivotal role in mobilizing and facilitating the program, ensuring its success.

The meeting underscored the importance of financial inclusion and capacity-building initiatives to empower SHGs and rural communities in the region.
