Bakdil observes International Womens’ Day across various parts of Garo Hills on 8th March 2022.

As a part of the celebration, Bakdil facilitated a district-wise sale and exhibition of women's SHG products

On International Women’s Day, Bakdil has organized an Exhibition and Sale of Women SHG Products at Parade Ground Tura.

Shri Ram Singh, IAS, DC, West Garo Hills graced the event as Chief Guest and inaugurated the SHG stalls in presence of Rt. Rev. Andrew R Marak, Bishop of Tura, Dr. Barbara Sangma, Dept. Of English, DBC Tura, Shri Madras Dkhar, DDM, NABARD, Fr Sunny Mavelil, Director of BAKDIL, and many participants from Urban Self Help Groups.

Speaking at the event Shri Ram Singh strongly urges the women not to use chemical soda (sodium bicarbonate) but instead to use locally made ‘kalchi’ which is made available from bamboo or banana.

He also encouraged the women in urban to join in a group and form Self Help Groups under National Urban Livelihood Mission being implemented by BAKDIL in collaboration with the Tura Municipal board.

Speaking about the enterprises the DC Shri. Ram Singh told the participants about various government schemes like PMMY and PMEGY and taking a startup by availing loans for different economic activities like piggery and poultry for rural women. “Once take care of own yourself you can take care of others’ he added speaking about a healthy and balanced diet.

Dr. Barbara Sangma wisely said that we don’t have the power to bring the downpour, but we have the power to keep and preserve the forests and trees that will in turn conserves the rivers and streams.

“leaving the clean and better for the next generation is in our hands”, she added.
