BAKDIL commemorates National Handloom Day on 7th August 2024, a special occasion to honor the rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship of our country. This day celebrates the exceptional artistry that has been passed down through generations.
Since 2020, the SBI Foundation Mumbai has been working in Daddengre, WGH, Meghalaya, in collaboration with BAKDIL (NGO, Tura). Following the successful completion of the Gram Seva project, the SBI Foundation has launched the SBI Prerna Handloom Centre in Daddengre, benefiting 100 individuals. The center is equipped with 20 looms, and local experts provide training. The primary objective of this initiative is to revive traditional handloom practices and offer livelihood opportunities to underprivileged women in the area.
This project not only aims to preserve our cultural heritage but also empowers women, fosters community development, and strengthens the local economy. Through the dedicated efforts of the SBI Foundation and BAKDIL, we are witnessing a resurgence of traditional crafts and a brighter future for the women of Daddengre.
